bouchon santa barbara's year-round garden patio, with its warm and inviting ambience, is the perfect place to dine at a leisurely pace and enjoy a authentic  regional wine dining experience. Our 'exclusively Santa Barbara County' wine list has earned Wine Spectator magazine's "Award of Excellence" for our focus on regional wines.  We've also been voted by local newspapers Independent and Santa Barbara News-Press as having a top restaurant wine list.  We hope you enjoy discovering our local treasures!

    Wine List below!           reservations@bouchonsantabarbara.com

the wine

The list you are about to delve into was constructed with a California Wine Country experience in mind.  Balance has been sought between well-known and obscure, old standby and new favorite— but with an additional twist:  the list is comprised exclusively of the finest wine selections from Santa Barbara County.  This incredibly diverse region stretches from the Santa Ynez Valley, just north of the city of Santa Barbara to the Santa Maria Valley, at the southern boundary of San Luis Obispo County.   Having experienced incredible growth since the late '90's, Santa Barbara County is now home to over 150 wineries, with new ones coming on line literally every month.  Best of all, though, is that this growth revolution is squarely focused on quality, particularly with the explosion of small, boutique wineries.

As a wine lover I appreciate wines from all over the world.  That stated, I believe there is much more to be said for a dining experience that is truly regional than one that isn’t.  If you’re like me, you would much prefer a bottle of Provencal Rosé in the South of France with bouillabaisse than a pink wine from California.  Mushroom Risotto in Sienna?  Chianti, of course!  Rack of Lamb in Bordeaux?  Not a Napa Cabernet, if you’re traveling with me!

More to the point, it seems appropriate that there be a restaurant dedicated to the finest wines produced in our ‘own back yard’ to go with our unbridled passion for local ingredients.  I believe that Santa Barbara County is producing some of the finest Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah in the world.  I also frequently see guests surprised by the quality, variety and approachability of locally produced Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Cabernet. Wine Spectator Award of Excellence

On the last page you will find forty or so Santa Barbara wines that we feature by the glass.  Please feel free to ask your server’s recommendation on how they match up with your dinner selections. (And if you are unable to restrain yourself you can ask the server for a ‘notable outsiders’ list!)

In the end, I believe a list that does justice to great Bordeaux, fine Burgundy, intriguing Alsatians, alluring Italians, rough-and-tumble Aussies, great, big Napa Cabernet and all the others would have to be ten times the size of this list to be ‘proper.’  And while this list is nowhere near exhaustive it is my intention to grow it into one that represents the best of Santa Barbara County, grown right here— like our food.  I truly hope you enjoy a memorable wine experience tonight!

beer & sparkling wine

Many Belgian beers undergo a secondary fermentation in bottle, aging & gaining complexity. ‘Trappist’ is an official designation, indicating the beer was made in a monastery by monks. ‘Abbey’ ale is a designation indicating the brewery maintains a tie to an ‘official’ abbey, contributes financially to the abbey and, in some cases, utilizes abbey recipes.  The beer glass is key, too, as brewers select specific shapes for head, nose and spot it hits the palate! I’m an obvious fan of the Belgian craft and hope you enjoy some of my favorites.       Mitchell
